What is a social media MCP server?

A social media MCP server lets an AI assistant like Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor post to your social accounts for you. It speaks the Model Context Protocol, so the assistant can see your channels and draft, schedule and check posts. Postbase runs one at https://mcp.postbase.so/mcp: add that URL to your AI tool, sign in, and it can schedule to X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Mastodon and YouTube.

The server at a glance

Endpoint

mcp.postbase.so

Hosted for you over Streamable HTTP. There's nothing to install or run.

Sign-in

OAuth

Sign in with Postbase and pick one workspace, or use an API key. Revoke either from the AI & API page at any time.

Limits

60 posts an hour

And 120 requests a minute per workspace, shared with the REST API.

Ten tools, nothing destructive

The agent can read your channels, media library and queue, create, edit and retry posts, check how each one went and how it performed, and cancel one before it goes out. It can't delete anything.

list_channelsRead only
List channelsPostbase

The accounts connected to the workspace: id, network, handle and status. The agent calls it first to get channel ids.

No arguments.

create_postWrites
Create or schedule a postPostbase

Saves a draft, or schedules a post or a thread, on one or more channels. The post lands on your Postbase calendar and publishes through each network's official API.

body or thread, channel_ids, scheduled_at (ISO 8601 with an offset) or schedule_in_minutes, media_ids from list_media or media_urls, channel_bodies for per-channel text, and an idempotency_key so a retried call can't post twice. Leave both times out to save a draft.

get_postRead only
Get a postPostbase

One post and how it went on each channel: published with its live link, or failed with the reason and when it will be retried.

post_id, from create_post or list_scheduled.

update_postWrites
Edit a postPostbase

Edits or reschedules a draft or scheduled post before it goes out. Only the fields you pass change.

post_id, plus any of create_post's fields. scheduled_at null turns it back into a draft.

retry_postWrites
Retry failed channelsPostbase

Sends a post again to the channels where it failed. Channels where it already published are left alone.

post_id.

get_analyticsRead only
Get post analyticsPostbase

How published posts performed: impressions, likes, comments, shares and saves per channel, with totals for the range.

from and to (YYYY-MM-DD, default the last 30 days), or post_id; channel_id, platform, sort (date or a metric), order, limit.

list_mediaRead only
List mediaPostbase

The images and videos in your Postbase media library, newest first. The agent passes their ids to create_post to attach them.

type (optional): image or video. search (optional): part of a file name.

add_mediaWrites
Add media from a URLPostbase

Adds an image or video to your media library from a public link, for attaching to posts.

url (https). name (optional).

list_scheduledRead only
List scheduled postsPostbase

Posts in the workspace with their text, time and channels. Scheduled posts by default, or drafts, published or failed ones.

status (optional): scheduled, draft, published or failed.

cancel_postWrites
Cancel a scheduled postPostbase

Cancels a scheduled post before it goes out. It goes back to being a draft, so nothing is deleted.

post_id, from list_scheduled.

Per network

What create_post does on each network, and what it checks first.

Two ways to connect

Most AI tools take the hosted URL and sign you in with OAuth. If yours only runs local servers, use the npm package with an API key.

Hosted

Recommended

Paste the server URL into Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any client that supports remote servers, then sign in with Postbase. No key to copy or store.

https://mcp.postbase.so/mcp

Local

API key

For clients that only run local servers: create a key on the AI & API page and run the open-source package with npx. Same tools.

npx @postbasehq/mcp

Frequently asked questions

What is a social media MCP server?

A social media MCP server lets an AI assistant like Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor post to your social accounts for you. It speaks the Model Context Protocol, so the assistant can see your channels and draft, schedule and check posts. Postbase runs one at https://mcp.postbase.so/mcp: add that URL to your AI tool, sign in, and it can schedule to X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Mastodon and YouTube.

What is the Postbase MCP server?

A hosted Model Context Protocol server that lets AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Claude Code list your social channels, save drafts, schedule, edit and cancel posts and threads, and check whether each one published. Everything it creates shows up on your Postbase calendar.

Which networks can an AI post to through it?

X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Mastodon and YouTube, with images or video from your Postbase media library. TikTok posts can only be saved as drafts: TikTok requires you to choose who sees each post, so you schedule them in Postbase yourself.

Can the agent attach images and video?

Yes. It can attach files from your Postbase media library (found with list_media), or give a public https link to an image or video, which Postbase downloads into your library first. Files count toward your plan's storage.

Do I need an API key?

No. Add https://mcp.postbase.so/mcp to your AI tool and sign in with Postbase. If your tool can't do OAuth, create an API key on the AI & API page and run the server locally with npx @postbasehq/mcp.

Can the agent delete posts?

No. It can create drafts and scheduled posts, list them and cancel a scheduled one, which turns it back into a draft. There's no tool that deletes anything or publishes past your review of the calendar.

Is it open source?

Yes. The npm package is at github.com/postbasehq/mcp and the hosted server is part of the Postbase app at github.com/postbasehq/postbase, both under AGPL-3.0. It's also in the official MCP registry as io.github.postbasehq/postbase.

Is there a free plan?

Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial and includes the MCP server and API. Drafts work without a plan; scheduling needs an active plan or trial.

Ready to get started?

Connect your agent in a minute. It drafts and schedules, and you see every post in your calendar.
